      Has anyone tried either removing pads from, or drilling holes in the cush drive, as described in this article – the author says it can reduce the clunkiness of changing gears. If it’s a good idea, I may as well do it now, before I install the rear wheel.

        Ask Alan Eric,
        I think he recommends removing some instead. I cannot remember exactly what he told me now.

          I did see that it made for softer take up of the drive if you removed half of the pads, of course equally spaced. However, I found this relating to drilling the pads who’s had may be useful.

              When they are new they are noticably softer.

              Thank you – I guess I should probably try driving without doing anything initially, and see how that feels.

                  If you have a really big pair of circlip pliers, changing the buffers is a very easy job.
